Samsung C&T Wins Fujairah F3 Combined Cycle Power Plant Contract

Samsung C&T has announced that it and Japanese developer Marubeni Corporation have been awarded the Fujairah F3 Combined Cycle Power Plant contract from the Emirates Water and Electricity Company, signaling a bright year ahead for the company in 2020.

Fujairah F3 is a contract to build a 2,400 MW combined cycle power plant in Fujairah, a region located some 300 km northeast of Abu Dhabi. The power plant will, once complete, serve as a steady source of power for 380,000 homes in the northern region of the UAE.

Under this contract valued at approximately 1.15 trillion won, Samsung C&T will function as the exclusive EPC contractor. The construction phase of the project is expected to complete in April 2023.

The key to Samsung C&T winning the Fujairah F3 contract lies with the company’s extensive experience in building many power plants throughout the Middle East. The company provided a complete array of EPC services on the UAE S2 project in 2009 and has since executed the Emal Phase 2 project in the UAE, the Qurayyah and Rabigh 2 IPP projects in Saudi Arabia, and the Umm Al Houl IWPP project in Qatar.

All of this experience successfully executing power plant projects throughout the Middle East also gave Samsung C&T unparalleled expertise working with world-class developers. In fact, Samsung C&T previously partnered up with Marubeni Corporation on the Jawa-1 project in Indonesia and is furthering this fruitful and effective partnership on this new Fujairah F3 project.

Samsung C&T is currently working on building a nuclear power plant in the UAE and a metro system in Saudi Arabia’s Riyadh. The Fujairah F3 contract is sure to further solidify the company’s position as a global EPC player in the region.
