RAK Properties and InterContinental Hotels revive resort plans

RAK properties and InterContinental Hotels Group have revived plans to build a resort in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah following a recent bounce in tourist numbers which grew by 10 percent from 2015 to 2016.

Mina Al Arab Resort in Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) will be the hotel brands’ second ‘multi-feature’ resort in the UAE when the 350 room project opens in 2019.

Mohamed Sultan Al Qadi, Managing Director and CEO of RAK Properties said the groundbreaking for the project would be announced shortly.

The hotel will be located on the recently announced Mina Al Arab Island development, which is RAK Properties’ next major development in Ras Al Khaimah which will include a mix of hospitality, residential and commercial properties.

The island development will cover 811,420 square meters, and feature a 5-star resort, 4-star resort, serviced apartments, shopping mall, beach and waterfront apartments, villas, and townhouses with a private beach clubhouse, and al fresco dining and entertainment venues.

Across the Middle East, there are 25 InterContinental properties open and an additional nine properties due to open within the next three to five years. The InterContinental Fujairah resort will be the group’s first in the UAE and is expected to open in 2017.
