Emrill appoints new head of business development

Leading UAE-based integrated facilities management services provider, Emrill, has appointed Philippa Carman as head of business development. Carman brings ten years’ experience in bid and tender management, work winning and business development to the role, as well as in-depth local experience and a solid understanding of the diverse range of Emrill’s targeted sectors. She will report to Emrill’s CEO, Stuart Harrison.

Carman began her career with Carillion, working within the London team’s bid department as an administrator and bid coordinator. She relocated to Dubai in 2014 to join Emrill as a bid writer. During her tenure with Emrill, Carman has also held the roles of bid manager, work winning manager, head of work winning and, following her most recent promotion, head of business development.

Commenting on Carman’s appointment, Harrison said: “Philippa was a clear choice for this position and was identified as the strongest candidate to lead Emrill’s strategic business development and work winning department to support the company’s ongoing growth plans. Having worked with Emrill for six years, Philippa has developed with the company and she has been instrumental in us winning contracts with developers on some of the emirate’s most prestigious projects.”

“Philippa has stepped into this role during a time of challenging market conditions and increased price sensitivity due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, I have every confidence that her negotiation skills, expertise and thorough understanding of the market and our clients’ requirements will give us a strategic edge and enable us to continue growing year on year.”

Carman is responsible for developing and executing winning strategies in the bidding process to enable Emrill to convert opportunities into successful, profitable contracts based on mutual trust and a strong commitment to client service delivery. Reporting directly to Carman are the company’s business development and bid departments, as well as Emrill’s solutions team and duly supported by Emrill’s marketing team.

Of her promotion, Carman said: “While every sector has its challenges, I am confident Emrill has a very bright future. Due to COVID-19, we have certainly needed to adapt. We have not been able to spend as much time interacting face-to-face with clients or conducting surveys on-site. However, we have been working with our clients closely. The team has also come together virtually, taking full advantage of the remote working technology available, including video and teleconferencing tools.

“We have used this period to assess our ongoing strategy and focus on what we want to achieve in 2020 and beyond. In the coming 18 months, we will continue to nurture our relationships with existing clients and forge connections with new clients, offering integrated facilities management solutions into a diverse range of sectors, including residential, commercial, mixed-use, retail and aviation.”

While holding the roles of work winning manager and head of work winning, Carman played an instrumental role in the company winning a number of high-profile projects, including a six-year contract renewal with Dubai Airports.

Carman holds a BA (Hons) in Business and Marketing from Southampton’s Solent University in the UK. She has also been accredited by Shipley Association of Proposals Management Professionals.
