Dentons and Driver Trett’s forum discusses construction challenges

Law firm Dentons and contractual and claims consultant Driver Trett hosted the fourth series of Topical Construction Issues in Muscat, Oman, earlier this February.

Construction sector specialists at the forum  discussed key issues faced in the construction sector this year and  explored some practical steps to overcome them.

It particularly examined the legal and contractual challenges confronting the construction sector in Oman and the wider region.

Partner at Dentons David Courtney-Hatcher shared some personal perspectives on how changes in attitudes and professionalism, as much as changes to contract terms and conditions, could greatly reduce claim time and disputes. He said: “This is always a highly interactive forum with many interesting and provocative issues and views expressed and best practices shared.”

Peter Shaw, senior consultant at Dentons, focussed on means of avoiding conflicts in the often challenging employer/contractor/nominated subcontractor relationship.

From Driver Trett, operational director Andrew Smith talked about modern approaches to delay analysis, identifying some of the pros and cons of the best-known methodologies.
