BIM Implementation Qatar kicks off

This second annual BIM Implementation Qatar conference organised by Advanced Conferences & Meetings (ACM) at the InterContinental Hotel, The City in Doha created a platform for the government authorities, consultants, contractors and BIM technology providers to discuss the growing use of BIM technologies in Qatar and explore how utilizing BIM can ensure that major construction and infrastructure projects are delivered to design specifications, within the agreed timelines and on budget.

The two-day event started on Wednesday with a presentation by Allen Jay Holland that shed light on understanding the building information plan and the employer’s information requirements followed by a presentation on the benefits of BIM in facility management by Muhammad Jabakhanji.

Derek Bankston detailed the lessons learned from implementing BIM across North America for the past decade whilst Bisrat Solomon Degefa and Steven Lewis presented a case study on implementing BIM in Doha Metro System.

The first day ended with a panel discussion on BIM models and standardization for complex mega projects by Ramalingam Thirunavukkarasu, Bhanu Sri Prakash Gejjala, Nithin Thomas and Amr Metwally.

 

Many key players participated in this event, such as Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’, KEO International Consultants, Atkins, ALPIN Limited, Parsons, AECOM, Qatar Foundation Green Building Council, Habtoor Leighton Group, GHD, ALYS JV, Hill International, Urbacon Contracting, RSP Architects Planners & Engineer, Hamad Medical Corporation, United Nation Development programme (UNDP), DPR Construction and Teesside University.

Solution providers like Hi-Tech Solutions, SBL and MTHojgaard showcased their newest technologies, innovation and solutions for BIM.

Day two will feature many more interesting presentations, to name a few: Smart and Green First Skyscraper Burj in Egypt, international case study on project delivery method: the IPD practice, BIM application in roads & highways projects and a panel discussion on Green BIM: sustainable design and construction techniques.
