Larsen & Toubro bags $817mn Qatar power grid deal

Larsen & Toubro’s power transmission and distribution business has won its largest single order in the Middle East.

The $817m contract for Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa) is the latest phase in the ongoing expansion of the country’s transmission network.

The India headquartered firm will carry out engineering, procurement and construction of 30 new substations of varying voltage levels and approximately 560km underground cables.

The project will be completed in phases over a period of 15 to 32 months.

“The development drive in the State of Qatar is in high gear and we are proud to be partnering in it by bagging yet another prestigious project from Kahramaa,” said Larsen & Toubro deputy managing director and president SN Subrahmanyan.

Kahramma has previously awarded L&T more than 40 substations and approximately 100km of high-voltage cabling projects worth nearly $1.1bn.
