Danube renames Ritz Tower to avoid trademark clash

Danube has rebranded its Ritz Tower by Danube property development in Dubai after belatedly realising it clashed with a famous hotel chain of the same name.

The project is renamed Starz Tower by Danube to avoid a potential trademark infringement, the company said in a statement.

“We had named our 5th project Ritz Tower by Danube after securing NOCs and approvals from all relevant authorities. Later it was realized that the name clashed with another registered trademark,” said Atif Rahman, General Manager, Danube Properties.

“Danube is a 23 years old extremely strong and trusted brand where we believe in maturing our own brand identity for each project; we have never had any intention of trade mark infringement and the fact that our entire project portfolio carries ‘By Danube’  as a postfix stand testimony to that.

“Upon being informed about the matter, we immediately decided to rename the project to Starz Tower By Danube given our long standing association with Bollywood stars. There were no legal proceedings whatsoever as we mutually and amicably decided to change the name.”

The AED300mn ($81.7mn) development, will come up in Al Furjan neighborhood in Jebel Ali area of Dubai that is in close proximity to Dubai South, the AED 120bn 140-square kilometer mixed-use development that will host Al Maktoum International Airport and the World Expo 2020.

Starz, which is sold out, is the fifth major project after Dreamz and the Glitz trio and takes the total value of the group’s real estate portfolio to AED 1.5bn. Starz offers 446 apartments including 270 studios
