Bahrain, Saudi officials discuss major infrastructure projects

Leading Saudi and Bahraini authorities discussed the progress of several ongoing projects in the kingdom including expansion and revamp of Al Fateh Highway and other key road development works besides the SAR1bn King Abdullah Medical City.

Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry undersecretary, Ahmed Abdulaziz Al Khayyat, held a meeting with officials representing the Saudi Development Fund (SDF), reported BNA.

Al Khayyat hailed deep-rooted fraternal relations binding Riyadh and Manama in all fields, lauding support to projects lined up by the Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry.

The two sides reviewed the roads leading to the Lawzi housing project in Hamad Town, the revamping of entrances to the Bahrain International Airport, the expansion and revamping of Al Fateh Highway and other key roads and infrastructure schemes, said the report.

The meeting focused on the King Abdullah Medical City, being constructed for the Arabian Gulf University (AGU) under a SAR165mn package as part of the GCC Development Programme for Bahrain, it added.

The two-phased landmark project includes an academic medical centre, an administrative building, staff accommodation, a child care centre, parking lots, and other infrastructure components, said the BNA report.

Phase 2 of the project will see the expansion of the academic medical centre, construction of the medical school, scientific research labs, a conference centre, a medical hotel, and other key facilities.
