DP World Sokhna berths inaugural Maersk ME6 vessel

DP World Sokhna has welcomed the first vessel from Maersk’s enhanced ME6 service, the M/V AS California, connecting the Mediterranean and Europe with Sokhna.

The service combines the cost and efficiency benefits of DP World Sokhna with increased access to the Mediterranean and Europe, and beyond. The first call originated from the Mediterranean passing through the Suez Canal before arriving at Sokhna to discharge European and Mediterranean cargo destined for Egypt.

Ajay Singh, CEO of DP World Sokhna, said: “The international shipping industry is developing at a rapid pace to meet the needs of markets around the world. We are pleased to welcome the inaugural vessel from Maersk’s enhanced ME6 service. Maersk’s international presence and knowledge of global trade closely mirrors the expertise and global footprint of DP World as a leading enabler of global trade and an integral part of the supply chain.”

To celebrate the enhanced service, DP World Sokhna assistant commercial manager Usama Amin and customer service manager Mustafa Yousef, both presented a commemorative plague and flower bouquet to the captain of the M/V AS California, Nawrot Ireneusz.

With a significant presence in both high-growth and mature markets, DP World operates an international network of 78 marine and inland terminals in 40 countries across six continents, employing over 36,000 employees.

DP World Sokhna is situated at the heart of the vitally important East-West trade route just below the southern entrance to the Suez Canal, strategically located to handle cargo transiting through one of the world’s busiest commercial waterways.
