Agility expands by adding 95 trucks to GCC operations

Global logistics provider, Agility, has expanded its regional overland fleet by adding 95 new Mercedes-Benz Actros 2041S 4×2 tractors to its Abu Dhabi, Kuwait, and Bahrain operations.

The expansion represents an investment of more than $7.5mn and is part of Agility’s regional growth strategy, said a statement from the company. The trucks will be used for both domestic and cross-border trucking across the Gulf.

Agility’s new trucks are equipped with a spark-prevention mechanism that meets strict safety requirements in the oil and gas and petrochemicals industries. The vehicles also emit less carbon dioxide than older trucks, supporting Agility’s commitment to the environment. As part of its investment in overland transport, Agility has deployed its own fleet and transport management system, called MicroTransport, said a statement.

The system includes several features, providing accurate tracking and reporting to safety adherence requirements, along with information on the mechanical condition of the truck and its location. The system enables Agility to minimise downtime and offer customers unique visibility of their goods at all times, it said.

Agility’s long-term vendor, Emirates Motor Company (EMC), the authorised distributor of Mercedes-Benz in Abu Dhabi and the flagship company of Al Fahim Group supplied the Abu Dhabi fleet. In Kuwait, 20 new trucks were supplied by Abdul Rahman Al-Bisher & Zaid Al-Kazemi Company, it added.

The 25 trucks purchased in Bahrain were supplied by Al Haddad Motors, authorised general distributor of Mercedes-Benz in Bahrain.

Elias Monem, CEO, Agility for Middle East and Africa (MEA) region, said: “Thanks to increased investment in infrastructure and construction projects across the Gulf, we have witnessed a steady increase in demand for goods to be transported by road across the GCC. We expect this trend to increase in the coming years. Our investment in the latest additions to our regional fleet allows us to meet the increasing demand for overland logistics, while ensuring that our drivers have a safe and comfortable working environment.”
